‘INTERNATIONAL COETHEN EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCES’ (INTERNATIONAL COETHENER ERFAHRUNGSAUSTAUSCH)

(ICE 2009)

Case No.1: CR.8971/2009: L. Balaraman, 82 yrs. Married. 2 sons, 1 daughter.

Until recently was running business of waste-paper market; since few months now he has closed this and resting at home.

Tall, well-built, fair-colored, apparently in good health.

About 7 yrs. ago GB removed because of GB stone.

Since then Hypertension on allopathic tablet for this.  “No problem with regard to the Hypertension.”

Constipation also developed after the GB operation.

In October 2008, excision of an infected Haematoma on the lt. Sterno-cleido-mastoid region.  No problem with that.

He has now come for a chronic Vertigo since 40 days or more; constant.  Feels as if being turned over with the cot in which lying, and on some occasions he has actually fallen down too!  “So I now sleep on floor, but even then I feel the Vertigo as if being turned over”.

When standing, walking, feel as if would fall either forward, backward, etc. Throughout the day and night no relief.

About 6 months ago, when I had finished my dinner (21 hours), and rose up and all my children, g. children all sat down for their dinner, I had Vertigo, and I ran around these who were sitting for food, and fell down.  That was the first instance of the Vertigo.

All tests  incldg. CT Scan of brain – no abnormality

‘Stugeron’ and other tablets were prescribed without any relief.

In 1966 he suffered a severe Scald on the right foot sole ball of 2nd /3rd  toes, when he stepped on very hot molten Tar on the road (he was walking barefoot because of a religious vow).  The wound though treated (allopathically), did not heal for several years although he has been taking medical treatments including so-called ‘alternative’ therapies.  Then it ‘seemingly’ healed.  But again the wound opened; still being ‘cleaned’ and ‘dressed’; if the wound is not cleaned regularly it ‘smells’ foul!  The wound is large, deep as if scooped.

More than an inch open and half an inch deep.  When I squatted down to examine the foot, I was  taken aback to see an enlarged, indurated, thick, leg with hard lumps in some places of the leg – evidently a case of Filaria (the patient confirmed it) of 15 years!  Once a year he gets chill, fever, reddening of the leg (inflammation).

Vertigo, old people, agg. turning in bed, rising from a seat, tendency to fall, slow healing, etc. : Rhus toxicodendron.

9 Feb. 2009: Q 2  o.d.

3 March 2009: Vertigo better by 20%; ulcer right sole persists: Q 3 b.d.

17 March 2009: Vertigo better 60%; Swelling of the leg less by 20%; still hanging the leg down agg.;   since one week occasional pricking pain in the foot.  Q 4 b.d.

4 April 2009: Swelling of the leg is less further; it is not hard any more.

No vertigo on rising from chair; sometimes feels being pushed backwards, but better than before.  Q 5 b.d.

Here I would like to say that I have had several cases of swollen indurated lower limbs, including 3 or 4 cases of Filaria, in which there was very good improvement including good reduction of the swelling and induration.  It takes time to achieve this and patients and Homœopath, both, must be patient.

Case 2: CR.8002/2007: Ganesh Raja, 35 yrs. Male, married 1 child 8 yrs.

He has Retinitis Pigmentosa and Hansen’s.

In 1999 it was observed that he had Retinitis Pigmentosa.  Can’t bear to see bright sun.

Childhood Scabies and such other eruptive diseases; a small ulcer appeared and subsided in the patch on the left face.

A sore in the left elbow and a small blister between left elbow and fingers.

No sensation and change in color in the patch below left knee.  Slight change of color in the patch on face “now developed as Eczema”.

Eczema agg. feet, ankle, calves ITCHING worse in nights.

Lt. foot, red, raw after scratching

Suffered Chikunguniya in Sept.-Oct. 2006.  After the Chikunguniya, began to develop pale patches of discoloration on face.

Now he has these discoloured patches on the back of forearms, thigh/knee, left face involving the forehead around the eyes.  He felt that these discoloured patches have lesser sensitivity when compared with other parts of the body. Much depressed and discouraged because of the diagnosis - Leprosy.  His younger brother also had Hansen’s

Case 4: CR. 6077/2004:  Baby Sneha Raj Girl. DOB: 1 Oct. 2001:  HISTIOCYTOSIS is under treatment from the Childs Trust Hospital, Chennai.  On Steroid and Chemotherapy since June 2002 (when the child was hardly 8 months age); Enlarged Liver and Spleen (Hepato-Splenomegaly)

First consultation with me in January 2004 when the child was 2 yr. 3 month age.  The child had a swelling in the posterior fontanelle which had not fully closed.

Haemotologist, Neurologist have examined the child.

Simultaneously with the allopathic treatment the child began Homœopathic treatment also.  In the opinion of a senior Paediatrician who was also a good Homœopathy practitioner, Histiocytosis has a very doubtful prognosis. Nevertheless the parents wanted that I treat the child with Homœopathy simultaneously.

In January 2004, we began the treatment with Calcarea phosphorica Q1 and went up to Q3.    Abdomen continued to remain enlarged.  The child developed eruptions on the scalp, itching (a good sign?)

Next gave her Baryta muriatica Q1 to Q3 and then 30 C.

She did well overall with Baryta muriatica upto Dec. 2004.  At the same time she was still on Steroid (Wyesolone).

Liver (Needle) Biopsy on 15 Dec. 2004: “Marked canalicular and some parenchymal Cholestasis”.  No evidence of Histiocytosis.

Calcarea carbonica Q 1 to Q 3.

Subsequent visit to the hospital: Cyclosporine was doubled. (25 mg.)  I continued the remedy Calcarea carbonica Q 4 to Q 10.

At this time the Paediatrician opined now that all parameters were satisfactory.

All through the treatment she was having some itching of the body.

Scan Report: Moderate Hepatomegaly with slightly coarse Parenchymal texture.  Marked Splenomegaly.  Ceanothus americanus Q1 to Q3.

Cyclosporin stopped by the Paediatrician.

From 14 Dec. 2006 to March 2007: Fluoric acid 30.  Paediatrician advised Splenectomy.

Her growth was somewhat stunted.  Can’t bear heat.  Sulphur 200.  Then Sac  lac.

up to July 2007.  Doing well.

Spleen region: hard; Liver: soft.  The parents said that the Paediatrician opined that the child was alright.  Itching all over, wandering, since 3 weeks: China Q 1 to Q 9 up to August 2008.  Meanwhile the Steroid has been gradually tapered.  Up to Nov. 2008 on Sac lac.

The child looks much, much better alround. Grown.  Goes to School and does well.  Activities are all normal.  However the girth of the abdomen remains same and so the Hospital continued to give Liver medicine, so that the Liver comes to normal size

Case 7: CR. Nil.  K. Ramachandran,  senior executive in a large Govt. Untkg.  Smoker.  Well-built; suffered a severe road accident on 17 Nov. 1970, multiple injuries.  “X-ray: Left leg: Badly communited fractures upper and both bones leg.” He was treated by reputed hospitals and became mobile; however there was chronic discharge from a sinus in the “antero medial aspect of the proximal tibia” for years.   In 1994: cavitation and many sequestrums” were found and the sequestrums  were removed.  Nevertheless, the sinus continued to discharge small drops on most of the days.  The patient was functioning without difficulty except that he had slight awkwardness in his walk.  Was undergoing regular consultations and treatment.

He was suffering from severe pain if standing for some length of time; can walk only very small distances, say about 100 – 150 feet with minimal pain.  He suffered from intermittent claudication and this prevented him from walking.

The patient was in New Delhi.  On 17 Sept. 1995 he was given one tablet of Proteus 30 (Nelsons, London).   In a long and detailed letter in April 1996, he wrote “ . . . . the medicine you gave me helped to walk.  I was not able to walk even 10 steps before your medicine.  After taking your medicine, in the evening I went to the beach.  I removed my slippers in the car and walked in the beach up to the sea and back without feeling any discomfort. After taking your medicine, now on an average I walk 5 Km a day, 2½ Km in the morning and 2½ Km in the evening.  The pain is gone; the numbness is gone. . . . . With your help I plan to go to Europe and the USA for a holiday for 2 – 3 months; so I need medicines up to the end of August 1996.”  Sometime in July 1996 his son wrote to me “father has been keeping well and enjoying the tour of USA.  Medicine would be over soon.  He has left his stick behind here at home”!  Sac Lac.

September 1996, “want further medicines”.  Sac lac

November 1996. “slight return of pain in the gastronomies  (he shifted house)

Proteus 30 one tablet.

Remains well in so far as his walking ability is concerned, until present date, May 2009.

This patient has been freely walking about up to the present date.  He still has oozing from the sinus in the leg.  He is now living about 300 Km from Chennai.  At intervals he has been consulting large star-rated hospitals, but his sinus remains; one Surgeon will say  that a surgery would help, another surgeon would say that it was not necessary and just let it be.  He has been on my medicine from time to time and discharged two or three times sequesterum; the remedy in so far as the sinus and sequestrum are concerned has been Silica.  He consults me at  long and irregular intervals over the telephone.  A drop comes out of the sinus on some days.

I have reported this to bring to light the efficacy of a single dose of a Bowel Nosode - Proteus

Case 8: Ms. Catherine (CR.5568/2003). DOB: 25.11.1993: Caesarian delivery; Breast fed for six months; from one year age wheezing; one severe episode. Wheezing stopped  by 2½ yr. age. In 1997 there was severe fever which lasted for 10 days - allopathic treatment.

She fell and rolled down at 2½ yr. age and was lying quietly, conscious.  There was swelling in the forehead.  Since then she wouldn’t squat down on the floor– cross-legged in the common Indian style.  Subsequently she became different didn’t thrive, began to fall down  frequently while walking; was walking on her toes (Proximal Myopathy).  Some times there will be milk white drops discharged from the lumps.  Allopathic consultations.  Now since two years normal walk and no falling.  Between 1993 and 1996, Homœopathic medicines.  Since 1996 various ‘tests’ and finally in 2002 diagnosed as Calcinosis cutis.  Dermatic myositis and on allopathic medicine since last two years (2001-2002). Catherine and Parents were not satisfied with the treatment and came to us.

Child very thin, bony.  Stammers (since the fall)  Timid. Self-conscious. Hesitates to climb steps, climbs in an awkward manner, on toes, with knees slightly flexed.  Refuses to go to,  doctors since she had undergone umpteen tests.  Since she has the lumps in the knee area and the lower end of the thighs she insisted on wearing skirt that would be long enough to cover the knees and below.  There are lumps in the gluteal region also.  Above the waist poorly grown; arms and legs are long and thin.  Has been on allopathic treatment until now (Feb. 2003).

Injuries, wounds become septic.

Case 10: CR.6552/2004. Ms J. Devi. DOB 11 Nov. 1967.  That a sudden incident can lead to chronic disease has been verified time and again in the day-to-day practice.  This lady a mother of two grown up children suffered from burning in the genital; in 2001 she had burning and itching; consulted Gynaecologist  who prescribed some ointment for application. Again in 2003 she had similar complaint;  milky urine; this was more on waking in morning.  Diagnosed Chyluria: She was under the treatment of a well-known Homœopathy physician with Lycopodium and Argentum nitricum.

In May 2004 again white urine.  Suspected some block in the renal tubules for fat molecules.

White urine agg. from oily food, sweets, milk.  Irritation and burning in the genitalia. Patient  felt much dejected.  Not getting lasting result she came to me.  She was avoiding coition because of the burning and irritation.

She has breathlessness on exertion like ascending one or two storeys.

She feared that she had heart disease.

Anxiety, fear of various diseases

Always thought that something bad will happen to family members who had gone out on day-to-day work.

Frequent eructations.

Bitter vomiting

Pain upper limb and she feared Paralysis and had her BP checked which was 140/90  mmHg.

She wanted Chyluria to be cleared first, and then “my mental problems”.

Since 6 months her menses lasted only one day.  Scanty.

If a friend tells about her problem she would think immediately that perhaps she too has that disease.

She repeated that she had great fear of disease and dying of it.

She said that about 4 years ago her brother fainted and fell.  He was diagnosed of a rare disease for which there was no known cure.  “This shocked me.  Only after that my problems started.  Before that I was a very happy person.”

She had several other symptoms which would fill another white page.

Psorinum M

To cut a long story short, this patient is still under our treatment; she is not fully free of her irrational fear of disease, leucorrhoea, ec.  Psorinum has given her lot of relief and that has been her main remedy;  in the interval she had a dose of Sulphur 200 and Sepia was the last medicine given on 19 March 2009 which she feels has done her much good.

Amongst the giants of Homœopathy I reckon J.C.BURNETT and GALLAVARDIN as the biggest.  None who has read the works of these two will differ.   The former brought about great cures of physical retardation, lop-sided development, badly stunted growths, etc., the latter did magic with the mental states and did ‘Plastic’ work much before the special surgeons came on the scene.

You can read several cases in BURNETT’s, book Delicate, Backward, Puny, and Stunted Children where he reports cases in which partial retardation in development, for example a young girl who had only one breast developed and the other, left, just rudimentary; the left side of the body is lop-sided.   The medicines prescribed by Dr. BURNETT rectifies this!  It is thrilling to read BURNETT’s small monographs.  I have not read anything nearly equal to them.  Similarly J.P. GALLAVARDIN.  He made me awestruck with his ‘Psychic Remedies’  Recall his case of the man who deliberately wore dirty, unclean dresses to the church on Sundays; and Ammonium carbonicummade him again a clean, civil person.

It is not so unusual that in the course of our daily Practice we too bring about ‘psychic’ cures; ‘cosmetic’ changes, etc.; unfortunately we do not ‘observe’ these and note and report.  It is just like the ‘verifications’ by the earlier masters who observed every change after the remedy given and noted them for further verifications. The journal ZKH has, glad to note, a section  for ‘verifications’ wherein, I hope all of us would contribute and in due course a large number therapeutically useful material would be available for the posterity.

13. CR. 6884/2005: Ms. DEVI, 23 years, was turning down every marriage proposal and her parents were much worried; this girl has been with us for normal periodic ailments like colds, headache, etc.  Now she was found to be rather stubborn and much self-opinionated.  I recalled GALLAVARDIN cases in which the mental attitude changed for the good and the happiness of all family members.   Based on the symptoms she presented on 6 Dec. 2008, gave a dose of Nux vomica 200.  The parents were assured that the girl will soon have change of mind!  On the 30 Dec. 2008 the patient visited for a dry cough.  The parents who accompanied her said happily that the girl has since accepted a marriage proposal.  The marriage was performed on 25.6.2009. All well.
