Palladium children will deny the body and try to seduce the father and to seduce the whole society – with the brilliance of their minds.      (DG)

 PERTUSSINUM

This remedy is very useful when treating Chronic Spasmodic Coughs that persists after a Whooping-cough vaccine, after Whooping-cough itself, or after viral infections with similar symptoms.           (DG)

 PETROLEUM

This individual is subject to Eczema and fissures, worse in winter.  Chillblains, excess acidity in the stomach, nausea and vomiting from riding in a Car or from eating vegetables of the Cabbage family.  Weight loss following Grief and a Lack of Will and determination can also be a part of this remedy picture.        (DG)

 PETROSELINUM

Sudden urge to urinate when out of the house.  Itching in Urethra, wants to insert some implement to scratch the place.
  (W.BUCHMANN, AHZ. 1988)

 PHOSPHORIC ACID

The nervous system is mainly affected, inducing both mental Depression and  Muscular Weakness of progressive type.  It is of note that dilute Phosphoric acid is used in ordinary medicine in cases of Chronic Lead Poisoning.

Often children and adolescents need this remedy; thin, overgrown and excited.  The adult has a Hopeless, Haggard, Worn-out look

The pupils may be unequal and the eyes have a glassy look.  The hair tends to be prematurely grey and sparse.  Disinclination to answer questions; replies in Monosyllables with reluctance - too much bother to talk or reply at length.

Psychological Asthenia precedes the physical weakness, and is a prominent symptom.  Stupefied with Grief; worn down by adverse circumstances; unable to cope.  Easily startled.

May complain of odd sensations such as widespread formication.

The Phosphoric acid condition may be brought on by emotional shock or continued stress, or any excess (sexual or other).

Chilliness is predominant.  Feels cold even in a warm room.  The extremities are constantly cold.  Moreover chills and heat are apt to alternate owing to a labile state of the circulation.

Drowsiness in Fever may stimulate Stupor, but can be roused to full consciousness for the moment.  Agitation and dry heat may cause wakefulness at night.

Jerking, moaning, talking, involuntary biting of tongue may occur in sleepy; may dream of Death, with Fear on waking.  Sleep, however is refreshing, even a short nap.

Cold sweats occur on arms and hands and along the spine.

Emotional stress, grief, care, sorrow, chagrin, homesickness, disappointed love, if prolonged or persistent, result in a dual state of mental apathy and physical exhaustion.  This can be compared with Staphysagria, in which resentment, envy and wounded pride - the injured feeling - predominate; also with Ignatia with its picture of emotional instability, unpredictability and lack of poise.

Symptoms are often accompanied by a sensation of pressure or constriction, local or general.

Giddiness, especially when standing or walking; as if one would fall forwards, as if the feet were rising and rising till one was standing on one’s head; while lying as if one’s body were floating off the bed.

The head feels empty or muzzy.  Headaches severe; often occipital, with sensation as if there was great pressure crushing the vertex or as if the temples were being squeezed together.  Must lie down, pain worse least movement, short or noise.

Styes, especially on upper lids.  The eyes feel pushed backward into the skull.  The lids are heavy and swollen.  Various types of Tinnitus; impaired hearing is common.  Severe itching at the tip of the nose.

Catches cold easily, which descend to the chest.  Sore throat with severe hoarseness.  Pinching pains in the chest worse expiration.  Oppressive tightness impeding respiration.  ‘Stomach cough’ caused by a tickle as from feather or dust which is felt along the whole length of the trachea. After a meal, distension, discomfort and a sensation of weight in the Stomach occur in about half an hour; Nausea and Vomiting may occur some hours later, warm food and fluids give relief (contrast to Phosphorus).

Extremely violent pinching and squeezing pains felt in the belly especially around the Umbilicus.  These pains are worse by bending the body either forwards or backwards.  There is much rumbling with passage of large quantities of Flatus.

Painless Diarrhoea - profuse, watery, white or yellow stools containing undigested food particles.  Rather unexpectedly the patient feels better after the passage of these fluid stools.  This is in marked contrast to the Calcarea carbonica  picture of  “only comfortable when constipated”.  Phosphoricum acidum may be indicated when the “typhoid state” supervenes in grave illness and both Bowel and Bladder are emptied involuntarily.

Heart muscle and circulation are involved in the general asthenia.  Palpitations and irregular Pulse.  Passive haemorrhages or Purpura.

Unduly frequent Seminal emissions with impaired function.  Herpetic or papillamatous lesions of the external Ggenitalia.

Menses tend to be too early and too profuse.  These may be followed by a yellowish vaginal discharge with Pruritus.

Copious, pale, watery Urine, which quickly forms a thick cloud of Phosphates on standing.

Legs feel weak when walking; stumbles easily or makes mis-steps.

The remedy is often effective in low potencies, 1x or 6c.  Acts well either before or after Cinchona.
   (D.M.GIBSON, HG. 1-70)

Whether it is after prolonged period of Worry, excessive intellectual labour, mourning, loss of fluid, or extensive Diarrhoea the Phosphoric acid subject is completely drained.  It is useful in cases of weight loss after prolonged grief.  A cough appearing after a grief, for example, child becomes asthmatic when the parents separate.

 PHOSPHORUS

Phosphorus individuals are ablaze: they consume all their energy and become exhausted.  Their sense of æsthetics gives them a taste for harmony and beauty, attracting others.  Phosphorus children lean on the desk close to the doctor, their brilliant luminous gaze following every move, keeping close watch on every gesture.      (DG)

 PHYTOLACCA

Good remedy for Sore Throats that come on during “electric” stormy weather and are colored with light-colored exudates.  The Throat is painful and the pain extends into the Ears on swallowing.

It is a useful remedy during teething for babies who constantly want to bite something to relieve the pain.

For nursing women when the Breast is hard, sensitive and when the infant nurses the pain extends throughout the mother’s body.    (DG)

 PLATINA

Platina is the remedy for individuals who allow themselves to be trapped by their own image as it is reflected to them by those around them.  So when your success leads you to develop a “big head”, when you begin to take yourself for God, when those around you seem small and worthless, that is the moment to take a dose of Platina.

For children, think of the mirror-gazing stage.  Wants to be interesting to everyone in the world.  Your teenager shuts himself for hours in the bathroom, working on his “look” to which he attaches too much importance.  If your mind has a tendency to become too critical; and if you cannot tolerate your children any longer (Lycopodium, Sepia), this remedy can help you re-establish your balance.

 PLUMBUM METALLICUM

Everything seems a nuisance to the Plumbum individual, who becomes Gloomy, Taciturn, Depressed.  Plumbum will allow children to tolerate the constrains of school – even those who have been labelled ‘Problem Children’ and who have been sent from school for lack of Discipline and interest.    (DG)

 PREDNISOLONE

Dr.PRIESTMAN used the toxic effects of  Prednisolone as listed in the Practitioner in selecting Prednisolone 3x for a case of Polyarteritis nodosa.
  (BHJ. July /1962)

 PSORINUM

Patients needing this remedy typically come from background where their self-worth was deeply undermined, where there may have been Poverty, Alcoholism, Abuse, perceived or actual Abandonment, Rejection.

Fear of separation or actually feeling separate; the longing for union with a beloved, or mother, or God.
It is the inablity to separate in a healthy way that is common to Psorinum cases. Disturbances of bonding such as being an unwanted child, incubation, lack of breast feeding, night time separation, etc., generate patterns of Fear and Insecurity that carry forward like a wave throughout the life of the individual.

The child’s security may also be adversely affected by the relationship dynamics of the parents. Jealous, competitive demands of the father for the mother’s attention, or on the other hand, the mother’s resentment of the child as competition with the father, are common scenarios.  Whatever the set-up or circumstances, it all boils down to neglect of the child, if not overt rejection.  These conditions translate in the personality as the sense of Isolation and Abandonment, or Forsakenness.

Conditions of Impoverishment can produce a  Psorinum state (VITHOULKAS).  Impoverishment is a state of lacking that may be physical or emotional, and can lead to a fundamental mistrust of life.  The well-known fear of Poverty of Psorinum is also related to the issue of Abandonment.  It is a Fear that is rarely justified by circumstance and arises from the same conditions of childhood that give rise to Forsakenness.

The Psorinum pathology has a kind of desperate intensity.  The Depression is intense, the itching is intense, the odor is intense, and in several cases we have seen the kind of intense personality that is usually associated withLachesis, Iodum, Sulphuric acid etc.  This intensity is perhaps the expressed form of the anguish characteristic of a state of feeling profoundly isolaed.  The intense Anguish of Forsakenness is usualy unconscious or barely perceived.  This is why the physical manifestation can be so extreme and perhaps why it is often on the Skin, in direct polarity to the depth within the Psyche.
   (Neil TESSLER, SIM.1-92)

New born children who have just come to world and left the relative paradise in the mother’s Womb.  Fear of lack, Fear of being Abandoned, Fear of Poverty.  Psorinum is a good remedy when there is a personal or family history of Hay fever, Eczema or Asthma.  They are often constipated and a curious symptom, feel best before the phases of aggravation, when the symptom begins to worsen.

 PULSATILLA

A pretty woman said, with her eyes cast down, ‘Homœopathy seems mysterious to me.  I’m 40.  Not a single time during the 15 years of my married life did I get any satisfaction from intimacy with my husband.  Once I prepared everything for the ‘meeting’: soft lighting in the bedroom, the fragrance of French perfume.  The bright night-gown failed to conceal my inner tremor.  But everything that happened was humdrum.  I burst into tears, and my only man called me Frigid and fell asleep.’
Yes, it was Pulsatilla  with the wrong partner.
  (G.URETZKI,  BHJ.1/92)

In acute fevers, children of this type should be carefully watched, since they dehydrate easily (Phos.).
When in trouble they run to the mother.
Have problems when siblings are born.
Blocked lachrymal ducts of new-born (Sil.)
  (Peggy CHIPKIN, HT. Nov./92)
